Karachi: Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi Monem Zafar Khan on Tuesday visited the residence of Shah Nawaz, the father of 27-year-old Shahzaib who was killed after being hit by a dumper in North Karachi 5C-1 area.He expressed deep sorrow and grief over the tragic death, offered prayers for the forgiveness of the deceased, and prayed for patience and strength for the bereaved family.During the visit, JI leader Shakeel Ahmed, Town Vice Chairman Shoaib bin Zohar, and JI Karachi Secretary Information Zahid Askari as well as local elected councillors accompanied Monem Zafar.Speaking on the occasion, Monem Zafar said that incidents involving dumpers and water tankers were increasing day by day in the city, resulting in the loss of precious human lives. He stated that these are no longer mere accidents but the outcome of government incompetence.The tragic incident occurred near Al-Huda Mosque at Power House Chowrangi, where a young man, Shahzaib, lost his life, while another youth, Umar, was critically inj ured. Both of Umar's legs were amputated, leaving him permanently disabled for life.He said this tragedy is not just the suffering of one family but a collective tragedy of the entire city of Karachi.Monem Zafar further said that Karachi's citizens are victims of street crime on one hand, while on the other, dumpers and water tankers have become harbingers of death. There is no one to take responsibility for the city-neither the provincial government is alert nor are municipal institutions fulfilling their duties.He said that the dumper and tanker mafia enjoys full government patronage. These heavy vehicles roam freely on city roads in broad daylight; their drivers often do not possess valid licenses, nor are the vehicles checked for fitness. Police and traffic police remain silent spectators, he added.Addressing the Sindh government, Monem Zafar asked how long the people of Karachi would continue to carry dead bodies. Every few days, a mother loses her son, a sister loses her brother, and a household loses its breadwinner, yet the government remains unmoved.He demanded that the government immediately set fixed timings for heavy traffic, ban the entry of dumpers and tankers into the city during daytime, strictly scrutinize drivers' licenses and vehicle fitness, and immediately confiscate illegal vehicles.He assured that JI would not abandon the affected families and would raise its voice for justice at every forum. He warned that if the government failed to take immediate action, the JI would launch a protest movement along with the people of Karachi.
