Islamabad: Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has warned that the proposed 27th Constitutional Amendment poses a serious threat to the structure of the federation. Speaking during the National Assembly session, he said that the 18th Amendment was passed through national consensus and celebrated across the country.

Barrister Gohar said that there were objections to four clauses of the 26th Amendment, and some key points were overlooked by the government. He accused the government of taking measures to weaken the federal system and further restrict the judiciary.

He said that the 27th Amendment appears to be aimed at reducing the provinces' share in the NFC Award, which violates the spirit of the federation. The provinces, he noted, are still awaiting the 11th NFC Award. He cautioned that concentrating powers in the hands of a few individuals would endanger national unity.

Barrister Gohar further urged the government not to introduce any new amendments that would undermine the judiciary, pointing out that the number of pending cases in the Supreme Court has already exceeded 57,000.
