7 killed, 5-storey building collapses in Karachi

Karachi: At least seven people were killed and several injured on Friday when a five-storey residential building collapsed in the Baghdadi area of Lyari.According to RESCUE authorities the building was completely collapsed. On information rescue operation has been launched. The number of casualties so far reported stand at 7. Some persons have been pulled out of rubble in injured condition.2 among them are stated to be in precarious condition.6 families were living in the collapsed building. More persons are feared to be buried under rubble. Due to narrow streets and closed avenues , difficulties are being faced to bring heavy machinery to the scene. People are engaged in rescue operation on self help basis.The two storey building adjacent to collapsed building has also been got evacuated.Police, Rangers and RESCUE teams have reached the scene. Deputy Commissioner South Javed Nabi Khoso is also present on the occasion.According to civil hospital administration 6 injured persons have been shifted to hospital.President Asif Ali Zardari expressed deep sorrow and grief over the tragic building collapse in Karachi. He extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and prayed for the swift recovery and rehabilitation of the injured.Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also expressed grief over the incident and directed that the rescue operation to retrieve those trapped under the debris be expedited. He instructed that all possible medical facilities be provided to the injured.Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the need to formulate a strategy on a priority basis to prevent such accidents in the future.
