Islamabad: The eighth death anniversary of the German Dr. Ruth Pfau who dedicated her life to eradicate leprosy in Pakistan observed on Sunday. She was born on September 9, 1929 in Leipzig, Germany. Ruth Pfau was a German Catholic nun and a physician and moved to Pakistan in 1961.

She was honoured with the Hilal-i-Pakistan-, Hilal-i-Imtiaz-, Nishan-i-Quaid-i-Azam-, and the Sitara-i-Quaid-i-Azam award for her services to Pakistan. Dr. Ruth Pfau, who was hailed as the Mother Teresa of Pakistan, passed away on this day in Karachi in 2017.

Meanwhile Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has paid a heartfelt tribute to Dr. Ruth Pfau on her death anniversary.

In a statement on Sunday, the Prime Minister highlighted her lifelong dedication to serving Pakistan's poor and marginalized communities.

He said Dr. Ruth Pfau exemplified sacrifice, selfless love and unwavering commitment to humanity, which will always be remembered.

PM Shehbaz Sharif appreciated her relentless efforts in treating leprosy patients and helping them regain respect and dignity in society. He described her contributions as a proud and inspiring chapter in Pakistan's history.

PM Shehbaz Sharif said Dr. Ruth Pfau's mission continues to serve as a powerful message of service, compassion and humanity for all.
