Islamabad: Acting President Jammu Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (DFP), Mehmood Ahmed Saghar, has urged the people of Kashmir to observe complete strike on August 5 to register their protest against the Indian government's move that altered the region's geographical, political and administrative nomaneclature.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Mehmood Ahmed Saghar condemned the Indian government's unilateral abrogation of Articles 370 and 35-A, describing it as a grave assault on the identity and territorial integrity of Jammu and Kashmir.

Calling the move a part of a wider conspiracy against the Kashmiri people, he said August 5 marks one of the darkest chapters in Kashmir's history, when India's apartheid regime stripped the region of its autonomy in blatant disregard of UN Security Council resolutions.

Highlighting India's settler-colonial policies, Saghar pointed to a series of anti-Kashmiri laws-ranging from demographic engineering to the redrawing of electoral boundaries-that have created deep insecurity among the local population.

'These laws aim to alter the region's demography, deprive its native inhabitants of land, jobs, identity, and culture, and ultimately undermine their internationally recognized right to self-determination,' he said.

Calling these actions a serious breach of UN resolutions, Saghar appealed to the international community to take urgent and meaningful notice of India's settler-colonial agenda in occupied Kashmir, which he said seeks to replace the indigenous population with outsiders.

He urged world leaders to pressure India into resolving the long-standing Kashmir dispute through peaceful and just means.
