Ahsan Iqbal says govt pursuing a vigorous strategy to combat the threats of climate change

Islamabad: Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal Chaudhry says government is pursuing a vigorous strategy to combat the threats of climate change.

Addressing a ceremony in Islamabad on Thursday, Ahsan Iqbal said that 'Uraan Pakistan' program has been designed to supplement the initiatives taken by government for Climate adaptation and green financing.

The Minister termed the disaster risk financing as a game changer and said that it is not only a funding tool but it is a national insurance policy against natural calamities.

Ahsan Iqbal said that disaster risk financing plays a transformative role under Uraan Pakistan as it protects exports and productive sectors form disruption and empowers E-Pakistan through data and digital risk modeling.

He further said that it advances our climate resilience agenda and shields our energy, infrastructure and investment.

The Minister said that resilience and financial preparedness both are prerequisites to combat the potent threat of climate change.

He further called for shifting from reaction to readiness and from fragility to resilience in order to effectively tackle the threats of climate change.

Ahsan Iqbal said that Pakistan endured relentless series of disaster over the last two decades and suffered an economic setback due to 2010, 2011, 2020 and 2022 floods. He said that currently we are facing erratic monsoon patterns and Glacial Lake Outburst floods.
