Islamabad: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founding leader Akbar S. Babar announced to challenge any expected decision by the Speaker of the National Assembly to appoint Mahmood Khan Achakzai as Leader of the Opposition at an appropriate legal forum.

In a social media statement, Akbar S. Babar said that the Speaker's move to notify Achakzai as opposition leader would be a grave violation of the Constitution, law, and a Supreme Court verdict that prohibits, directly or indirectly, any convicted person from indulging or directing politics.

He said that the National Assembly rules do not allow the Speaker to appoint a Leader of the Opposition at the behest of a convicted individual nor do the NA rules allow the Speaker to flout the decisions of the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

He said such a notification would be a clear violation of Supreme Court judgment.

He said politics of compromise at the cost of rule of law has allowed the politicians to be above the law and accountability.

He said our political history is mired with influential politicians who spread chaos in society, attack institutions, or facilitate terrorists are given immunity under the guise of political reconciliation, he said.

He said the time has come to bury such 'deal-making politics' and announced that a second round of the 'Marka-e-haq' against internal enemies, allegedly acting at the behest of external enemies is the need of the hour.

He said this battle would be fought on political, legal, and media fronts, expressing confidence that victory would ultimately belong to Pakistan and its people.
