Lahore: Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan has continued its relief and rescue operations in flood-affected areas of Ferozewala, where several residential colonies have remained inundated for the past several days, affecting a large number of families.According to the foundation, floodwaters entered homes and streets in several localities, forcing residents to move to safer places while increasing the need for food, clean drinking water and medical assistance.Chairman of Alkhidmat Disaster Management Aijazullah Khan said the foundation's disaster management teams and volunteers had been working in the affected areas since the first day of the flooding. He said rescue operations, evacuation of stranded families, distribution of cooked meals, provision of clean drinking water and free medical services were continuing without interruption. He said that so far 13,228 flood-affected people had been provided cooked meals, while 11,358 people had received clean drinking water. In addition, 852 people had been evacua ted to safer locations using six boats, while 586 patients had received free medical consultation, medicines and treatment through five medical camps.Aijazullah Khan said Alkhidmat considered timely assistance to people affected by natural disasters and emergencies as one of its foremost responsibilities. He added that following the devastating floods of 2022, the organisation had further strengthened its disaster management system. Currently, 46 Disaster Response Centres and strategically located warehouses are operational across the country to ensure the swift deployment of relief supplies and trained response teams during emergencies.President of Alkhidmat Foundation Central Punjab Ikram Ul Haq Subhani said the organisation's trained volunteers, professional rescue teams and emergency equipment remained ready to respond to disasters throughout the year. He said volunteer training and capacity-building programmes were conducted on a regular basis. Since January 1 this year, 1,852 individuals had receive d emergency response and disaster preparedness training, while a total of 6,720 people had been trained in disaster management since May 1, 2023.Ikram Ul Haq Subhani said Alkhidmat would continue its relief operations until the complete rehabilitation of flood-affected families and appealed to philanthropists to support the foundation's relief and rehabilitation efforts so that assistance could reach as many affected families as possible.
