Karachi: Alkhidmat Karachi has inaugurated its 77th water filtration plant in Landhi No. 5. CEO Alkhidmat Naveed Ali Baig inaugurated the facility in the presence of Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Korangi District Mirza Farhan Baig, Director WASH Programme Gohar-ul-Islam and other officials of the WASH Programme. A large number of local residents attended the inauguration ceremony. Following the inauguration, the officials inspected the water filtration plant and were briefed about its operations and facilities.Addressing the inauguration ceremony, Naveed Ali Baig said that access to clean drinking water is a basic need of the entire city. 'The water supplied to homes is not fit for drinking, while contaminated water causes various diseases, ' he said. He added that Alkhidmat has been working on clean drinking water projects for several decades. 'We want the residents of Karachi to have access to clean drinking water. Clean water and a green, healthy environment are essential for building a healthy society, and Alkh idmat is working on both these fronts, ' he said.Naveed Ali Baig said that Alkhidmat has so far installed 76 water filtration plants in different parts of the city, and the one in Landhi was its 77th plant. He said that these plants have been established in areas where there is a pressing need for safe and clean drinking water. He further said that Alkhidmat is working across eight major sectors, and its supporters have complete confidence in the organization because every rupee entrusted to it is spent with honesty and integrity.Referring to Alkhidmat's Bano Qabil programme, Naveed Ali Baig said that the programme has provided young people with opportunities for a brighter future. 'Young people are moving away from disappointment and towards a journey of achievement and success, ' he said. He added that the outstanding work being carried out across Alkhidmat's eight sectors is a shining example of the organization's 50-year history of service. Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Korangi District Mirza Farhan Baig said that Alkhidmat's services were well known and visible to everyone. 'Alkhidmat is serving humanity without discrimination. The installation of this water filtration plant in Landhi will enable a large number of residents in the area to benefit from clean drinking water, ' he said.Director WASH Programme Gohar-ul-Islam said that Alkhidmat has a modern water-testing laboratory equipped with an effective system for monitoring water quality. He said that the quality of water supplied through the filtration plants is tested regularly. He added that Alkhidmat's trained and skilled staff also ensure proper maintenance of the plants. He said that Water ADM (Automatic Dispensing Machines) have been installed at several locations across the city to provide uninterrupted access to clean drinking water around the clock. Gohar-ul-Islam reaffirmed Alkhidmat's commitment to expanding the availability of clean drinking water throughout Karachi.
