Karachi: Under its Gen Z Movement, Alkhidmat Karachi organized the Mega Plantation Drive 2026 in the Power House area of New Karachi to promote environmental sustainability and encourage greater public participation in tree plantation.The campaign was inaugurated by Executive Director Alkhidmat Karachi Rashid Qureshi, who planted the first sapling. New Karachi Town Chairman Muhammad Yousuf also participated by planting a tree, watering it, and offering prayers for Pakistan's peace, progress, prosperity, and environmental well-being. The plantation drive witnessed enthusiastic participation from volunteers of Alkhidmat's Summer Social Internship Program, including students from colleges and universities, as well as local residents. Senior Manager Volunteer Management Asad Qureshi and other Alkhidmat officials were also present on the occasion. The participating students planted saplings across the designated area and reaffirmed their commitment to making Karachi greener and more environmentally sustainable.Addressing the gathering, Executive Director Rashid Qureshi said that tree plantation is not merely a campaign but an investment in a safer, healthier, and greener future for generations to come. He noted that every citizen has a responsibility to play an active role in addressing the growing challenges of climate change, environmental pollution, and rising temperatures.Rashid Qureshi said that Alkhidmat Karachi remains committed to promoting environmental awareness among young people and encouraging them to take practical action for environmental protection. He added that the organization's Gen Z Movement is an important initiative aimed at inspiring youth to become responsible environmental stewards and active contributors to a cleaner and greener Karachi.Speaking on the occasion, New Karachi Town Chairman Muhammad Yousuf appreciated Alkhidmat Karachi's plantation campaign and described tree plantation as both Sadaqah Jariyah (a continuous charitable act) and a valuable national service. He said that if every citizen plants and nurtures even a few trees during their lifetime, Karachi can once again become a green, healthy, and environmentally friendly city.He also urged young people not only to plant trees but to take responsibility for their long-term care and protection, emphasizing that the success of such initiatives depends on sustained community ownership. At the conclusion of the event, participants pledged to continue planting and protecting trees and to play an active role in making Karachi a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable city for future generations.
