Islamabad: Senior leader of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) and Chairman of the Jammu Kashmir Salvation Movement (JKSM), Altaf Ahmed Bhat, today commended the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) for its reaffirmation of solidarity with the people of Jammu and Kashmir and its insistence on the implementation of international commitments regarding the region.
Bhat praised the OIC's recent statement, welcoming the organisation's continued acknowledgment that the unresolved status of Jammu and Kashmir remains a critical issue and that the Kashmiri people must be given the right to self-determination in line with relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions.
He said: 'The OIC's voice is a meaningful beacon of hope for Kashmiris who have endured decades of injustice and denial of their basic political rights. By publicly urging that international law and UN resolutions be honoured, the OIC has sent a strong message that the world still recognises our struggle.'
Bhat also urged the OIC and its member states to translate their declarations into concrete action, pressing for access of international observers, cessation of unlawful demographic changes in the occupied territory, and ensuring that any final settlement includes the genuine will of the Kashmiri people.
He concluded by calling on all Kashmiris, both inside the region and in the diaspora, to take heart from the OIC's reaffirmation of support, and to continue their peaceful efforts to secure justice and dignity and freedom for the homeland.
