Lahore: Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Ameerul Azeem has strongly condemned the arrest of Senator Mushtaq Ahmad Khan and demanded his immediate release. In a statement issued from Mansoorah on Friday, Ameerul Azeem said the senator was arrested by Islamabad police for staging a peaceful protest against Israeli atrocities in Gaza. 'It is deeply concerning that in a country like Pakistan, which should be a vocal supporter of Gaza and actively working to stop Zionist oppression, peaceful protests against Israel are being suppressed,' he said.He contrasted Pakistan's actions with those of Western nations, stating: 'Across Europe and the United States, people are holding massive demonstrations in support of Gaza, and despite the pressure, those governments have not dared to take action against the protesters due to their commitment to free speech. Unfortunately, Pakistan is failing to uphold even this basic right.'Ameerul Azeem criticized the Pakistani government for not even daring to condemn the U.S. ba cking of Israel. 'The so-called major opposition parties are equally silent,' he said, adding the government, earlier, had also not allowed Jamaat-e-Islami to hold a peaceful march outside the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad, fearing Washington's displeasure. He urged the government to wake up and reflect the sentiments of the Pakistani nation. 'JI workers will continue to raise their voices against oppression. No amount of state repression can silence us or prevent us from standing up for the people of Palestine,' he declared. He demanded the immediate release of Senator Mushtaq Ahmad Khan, his family members, and all Jamaat-e-Islami workers detained in connection with pro-Palestine protests.
