Islamabad: Another judge of Supreme Court (SC) has written a letter to Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Yahya Afridi.
Supreme Court Justice Salahuddin Panhwar has written a letter to Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Yahya Afridi regarding the proposed 27th Constitutional Amendment, expressing concerns about its potential impact on the judiciary's independence and calling for a full court meeting.
According to text of the letter, full court meeting be called and constitutional amendment be reviewed clause wise. Law and Justice Commission and national judicial policy making committee be also included in the consultation.
He said 27th amendment can disturb the balance of powers. Constitution demands that SC should protect it.
He said history will remember our courage for decision making and not our ease. Full court meeting be summoned forthwith to restore public trust.
He said I am writing this letter under my constitutional obligation and not as protest so that the court deliberates over this matter collectively.
He said if the judiciary is not independent then the rule of law merely becomes a sentence.
He cautioned 27th constitutional amendment can undermine balance of power.
