Islamabad: An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) will resume hearing the Group Captain Shaheed Asim Tariq murder case on July 20, as the prime suspect, Saad Abbasi, is scheduled to be produced before the court following completion of identification parade proceedings.

The case will be heard by ATC Judge Abual Hasnat Zulqarnain, who had earlier remanded the accused to jail for a 14-day identification parade and directed the investigating officer to submit a report after its completion.

During the previous hearing, Prosecutor Raja Naveed and the investigating officer appeared before the court, while the suspect was presented under strict security arrangements.

The investigating officer informed the court that the accused was required to undergo an identification parade, while the prosecution stated that two eyewitnesses were also available in the case.

According to court proceedings, the judge questioned the accused about the incident. Saad Abbasi responded that he was with a woman when the deceased allegedly approached and disturbed them. The judge remarked that such conduct did not justify the alleged act.

According to the FIR registered at Margalla Police Station on the complaint of the Commandant Air Headquarters, the accused was allegedly harassing a woman when Group Captain Asim Tariq intervened and attempted to stop him. The suspect allegedly threatened the officer, fled the scene on a motorcycle, later returned after taking a U-turn, and opened fire near the officer's vehicle, resulting in his martyrdom.

The case has been registered under murder and anti-terrorism provisions, while police said further investigation would continue after completion of the identification parade.
