Islamabad: The Austrian Ambassador, H.E. Mr. Wolfgang Oliver Kutschera, hosted a special reception in Islamabad to celebrate a growing partnership between Austrian and Pakistani enterprises in the field of sustainable and climate-smart agriculture, supported by advanced weather forecasting technologies.
The event brought together local representative of Austria's Pessl Instruments, and the National Rural Support Program (NRSP), alongside distinguished guests from the public and private sectors.
Speaking at the occasion, the Austrian Ambassador highlighted the strengthening bilateral relationship between Austria and Pakistan and emphasized the increasing momentum in trade, investment, and technological cooperation between the two countries' private and public enterprises.
The Ambassador noted that the event comes at a particularly significant moment in Austria-Pakistan relations. Earlier this year, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, H.E. Mr. Shehbaz Sharif, visited Austria at the invitation of the Federal Chancellor of Austria, H.E. Mr. Christian Stocker. The visit provided an important opportunity to deepen bilateral engagement, including through the signing of several Memorandums of Understanding aimed at enhancing economic and investment cooperation.
The Ambassador also referred to the recent High-Level Pakistan-EU Business Forum held in Islamabad, which further reinforced economic engagement between Pakistan and European partners. Austria emerged as the third-largest participating delegation at the forum, with 14 Austrian companies engaging in productive dialogue and business-to-business interactions.
For more than four decades, Pessl Instruments has been providing precision agriculture and climate-smart farming solutions in over 85 countries worldwide. Its METOS weather station systems support farmers and agricultural managers with accurate, data-driven insights to address increasingly complex climate challenges.
As part of the collaboration, Pessl Instruments announced the gifting of two METOS weather stations to the National Rural Support Program (NRSP) for deployment in areas where they are needed most. The initiative reflects a shared commitment to promoting resilient, technology-driven agriculture at the grassroots level in Pakistan.
The Ambassador underscored the importance of local partnerships in ensuring the success of such initiatives. The inititative between Pessl Instruments and NRSP demonstrates how Austrian innovation can be effectively localized through capable Pakistani institutions and outreach networks.
The Ambassador also expressed confidence in the future potential of the partnership, particularly in areas such as software development, technical support services, and broader agricultural innovation ecosystems in Pakistan.
Concluding the event, the Ambassador emphasized that the initiative represents far more than a commercial partnership. It reflects a shared commitment by Austrian and Pakistani enterprises and institutions to advancing sustainable agriculture, strengthening climate resilience, and supporting the prosperity of future generations.
The event concluded with remarks by Mr. Rashid Bajwa, CEO of NRSP, who thanked the Ambassador for hosting the event and appreciated the collaboration between the participating Austrian and Pakistani partners. Mr. Bajwa noted that the gifted METOS weather stations presented to NRSP would ultimately benefit farmers in areas where such technologies are needed most, supporting climate resilience and informed agricultural decision-making at the grassroots level.
The remarks were followed by the formal unveiling and handover ceremony of the METOS weather stations.
