Dhaka: Ameer Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, has presented his party’s comprehensive vision for the February 12 elections.

Addressing a ‘Policy Summit’ held in honor of the diplomatic community and civil society, he announced that Jamaat-e-Islami is committed to building a ‘new and awakened Bangladesh’ based on a modern economy, social justice, and democratic values. He made it clear that his party considers the development of women and the protection of minorities a sacred duty and aims to project the country as a responsible partner at the global level. Dr. Shafiqur Rahman also announced that he would vote ‘Yes’ in favor of reforms in the upcoming referendum.

Dr. Shafiqur Rahman reiterated his intention to cast a positive vote in the forthcoming referendum and said that they would govern as servants of the people. If given power, they would safeguard the public trust. He reaffirmed his commitment to a modern market economy and stated that a comprehensive plan would be formulated to make Bangladesh a regional economic model. Speaking about women’s empowerment, he said that 43 percent of Jamaat-e-Islami’s members are women, and that every girl would be given equal opportunities for progress.

Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said that the protection of minorities is a sacred responsibility, and safeguarding the rights of the Hindu, Sikh, and Christian communities is their top priority. Regarding foreign policy and international cooperation, he stated that global partners would be invited to invest in Bangladesh, with guarantees of transparency and accountability. The Jamaat chief said that after the end of 15 years of authoritarian rule, Bangladesh would emerge as a new hub for the international community. He also described the 2024 student movement as the engine of development.
