Islamabad: Reacting strongly to increase in salaries of speaker National Assembly (NA) and chairman Senate, senior politician and ruling party member Zahid Khan has said chairman Senate and speaker NA should themselves refuse to receive this enhanced salary.
He demanded of government to withdraw this decision immediately.
He held country is facing severe economic crisis and challenges.
Increase in salaries of high level government functionaries at this critical juncture of time is beyond comprehension.
On one side government is engaged in taking loan from IMF and on the other side pay and privileges are being increased persistently which is tantamount to add salt to injuries of people.
He regretted government has already enhanced the salaries of members of parliament and judiciary. Now speaker and chairman Senate are being favored.
He warned those sitting in parliament are elected representatives of people. If they prefer their financial benefit to people interest then it will send wrong message that ruling elite is busy in filling its own pockets.
He appealed chairman Senate and speaker NA should refuse to take additional salary on their own so that public trust is restored.
