Islamabad: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Yahya Afridi has said important talks were held with judges of Indian judiciary during visit to China, however the details cannot be disclosed now in the prevailing situation.

He said this while talking to members of Press Association of Supreme Court (SC) here Tuesday.

There are 367 judges in Chinese SC and no case is pending therein, he said adding Chinese judges were surprised on knowing number of pending cases in Pakistan judicial system.

He held I visited China along with 5-member delegation to learn from Chinese judiciary and understand their system.

Timely decision about cases is next to nil without effective utilization of technology in Pakistan.

Technology is not tablet which should be eaten and every thing would become OK. We will have to complete data so that effective utilization of A-1 becomes possible.

CJP said standard of technology in all high courts is better than SC.

Two permanent benches and one temporary bench have been constituted in SC to deal with criminal cases. 178 out of 403 appeals related to death sentence have been wrapped up.

Over 1200 appeals related to life sentence are pending hearing. Out of them the criminals have served 2/3 rd period of sentence in several appeals.

Petitions soft copy will be accepted from June 15 and number of copies has been reduced from 8 to 3.

He remarked use of technology will benefit judiciary. If resources are required in this regard then donors will be approached as well.

Announcing to introduce evening shift in judiciary he said optional cases will be heard from 2 p,m to 5 p,m. Salary of judges who work in evening shift will be enhanced by 50 percent.

Avoiding to give opinion to the question about judges transfer he said the matter is pending hearing.

Talking about Islamabad High Court (IHC) he said it will be better to bring judges from other provinces. However the judges who are transferred should be kept at the bottom in seniority.

The CJP made it clear legislation is mandate of parliament. We have to respect the laws enacted by parliament till the arrival of court's decisions.

I will give opinion on 26th constitutional amendment after court's decision.

He said so far 14000 complaints have been received on anti corruption hotline. Action is being taken on them.

CJP said apprising the people of positive steps of judiciary is need of hour so that confidence on judicial system is restored.
