Dhaka: Following rising tensions between student organizations at Dhaka University and recent violent clashes, the administration has formed a six-member committee to investigate the incident.

The committee has been instructed to submit its report within three working days. Authorities have urged students to show restraint and not take the law into their own hands.

Tension escalated at Dhaka University as activists from Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir brought out a protest procession on campus.

The demonstration was organized to condemn the alleged harassment, intimidation, and physical torture of their members by activists of Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), the student wing of the BNP.

Shibir leaders claim that Chhatra Dal activists have recently targeted their members in various residential halls, resorting to “guest room” style intimidation and physical assault. Protesters marched through key points of the university, chanting slogans demanding a safe environment for all students and an end to “political hooliganism.”

It has been immediate identification and punishment of those involved in the harassment and ensuring a peaceful, co-existing political atmosphere on campus.

‘We will not tolerate the culture of torture being revived on this campus. Every student has the right to their political beliefs without fear of violence,” stated a Shibir representative during the rally.

This friction marks a notable shift in the campus landscape following the political transition in Bangladesh. While both groups were previously aligned in their opposition to the former regime, old rivalries regarding campus dominance appear to be resurfacing, leading to these localized confrontations.
