Wah cantt: The Athletics Federation of Pakistan, in collaboration with the POF Sports Directorate, has launched a Coaches Training Week in Wah Cantt to promote athletics at the grassroots level. The initiative is being overseen by Major General Kashif Shahzad, DG Commercial (POF) and President POF Sports Directorate.
The program aims to encourage athletics development within and around Wah Garrison and is expected to benefit nearly one hundred thousand students in the long term. The first event under this initiative concluded on October 31, 2025, featuring a World Athletics Workshop for the training of practitioners of Kids' Athletics, conducted by Athletics Federation of Pakistan's lead practitioners.
A total of 23 participants - including 14 female and 9 male physical educators from various schools in Wah Garrison - attended the workshop. Prior to the sessions, all participants completed World Athletics e-learning modules on Safeguarding and Kids' Athletics under Athletics Federation of Pakistan's guidance.
The workshop introduced the fundamentals of Kids' Athletics with a focus on fundamental movement skills, risk assessment and safeguarding, activity design using the STEP (Space, Task, Equipment, People) approach, and the importance of warm-up and event planning. Participants underwent intensive theoretical and practical training sessions designed to enhance their skills and understanding.
To evaluate participants' progress and practical application, a Kids' Athletics Day will be held at Oval Ground, Wah Cantt, on November 3, 2025. Students from several schools within the garrison will take part in the event, while physical educators from all educational institutions in the area have been invited to observe and learn about event planning and management.
