Construction of floating restaurants on Lahore Canal challenged in LHC

Lahore: Construction of floating restaurants on Lahore Canal has been challenged in Lahore High Court (LHC).

A constitutional petition has been filed by Dr Ijaz Anwar and others in LHC in this regard.

Punjab government, LDA, PHA and others have been made respondents in the petition.

The petition said bringing canal into commercial use is violation of environmental laws and protection of heritage. Natural flow of the canal is feared to be affected due to floating restaurants.

The point was raised in the petition canal is historical and cultural heritage of Lahore. Environmental pollution is on rise due to construction of floating restaurants.

The encroachments and illegal constructions can be made on the banks of canal due to construction of floating restaurants.

The court has been requested through the petition to declare construction of floating restaurants null and void besides issuing stay order till the final decision of the petition.
