Islamabad: Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE) delegation headed by its President Kazim Khan held meeting with Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar Advocate here eon Tuesday.
During the meeting the problems being faced by the newspaper industry, reforms in Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC), budget of news agencies, dues of the media houses, dummy newspapers and other maters were discussed in detail. Attaullah Tarar was accompanied by Federal Secretary Information and Broadcasting Ashfaq Ahmed Khalil and Principal Information Officer (PIO) Raisa Adil. Meanwhile the CPNE delegation included President Kazim Khan, Secretary General Ghulam Nabi Chandio, Ex-Secretary General Aijaz-ul-Haq, Secretary Finance Arif Baloch, Ex-President Irshad Arif, Vice President (Sindh) Kazi Asad Abid, Vice President (Punjab) Mian Ahmed Hassan, Vice President (Islamabad/Rawalpindi) Shakil Ahmed Turabi, Vice President (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa) Tahir Farooq, Joint Secretary (Islamabad/Rawalpindi) Yahya Khan Saduzai and member Rafey Niazi.
Attaullah Tarar and CPNE office-bearers agreed to introduce reforms in the system of Audit Bureau of Circulations.
On the occasion Attaullah Tarar said that the government believes in independent, responsible and strong print media, adding that the negotiation process will continue with all concerned parties for the resolution of the problems faced by media industry. He said that it is need of the hour to bring reforms in the system of ABC and make it more effective and transparent.
Information Minister said that necessary reforms in ABC, payment of media houses dues and matters related to the news agencies will be moved forward on priority basis, adding that every possible cooperation will be extended for the resolution of problems faced by the media organizations.
CPNE delegation congratulated newly appointed Principal Information Officer Raisa Adil on assuming the responsibilities. The delegation expressed the hope that under the leadership of Raisa Adil, the mutual cooperation between the information ministry and media industry will become more strong. The delegation while hailing the services of outgoing PIO Mubashir Hassan, expressed well wishes for him.
