Islamabad: Election Commission (EC) has summoned interior minister in person on the matter of delay in Local Bodies (LB) polls in federal capital.

The EC has issued contempt of court notice to interior secretary.

A five members bench of EC presided over by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja took up the case for hearing.

As per media reports during the hearing of the case Chief Commissioner (CC) Islamabad Ali Randhawa appeared before EC. However interior secretary did not appear.

During the hearing of the case CEC inquired where is interior secretary.

He directed that interior minister be summoned in person on next hearing.

CEC remarked if interior secretary does not come then we call interior minister in person and interior minister himself will come in all next hearings.

He said ICT authorities should go and say we have not been heard in EC.

EC authorities told that letter was sent to interior secretary but he is not cooperating.

As per authorities letter was sent but its reply was not given.

Upon it CEC directed contempt of court notice be sent to interior secretary.

EC authorities took the stance during the hearing of the case. demarcation and map of Islamabad and number of member union council be settled so that the process of delimitation could be started.

CEC remarked ICT administration is taking this matter lightly and these elections are direct responsibility of ICT.

CEC further said three federal ministers came in commission and they had returned after giving assurance to us.

He said don't force us to take stern action. Give us timeline.

The CEC directed chief commissioner Islamabad should inform us about progress in this matter on Tuesday.

The hearing of the case was adjourned till next Tuesday.
