Islamabad: Deputy Chairman Senate of Pakistan, Syedal Khan Nasir, attended the closing ceremony of the Ali Embroidery Mills International Junior Tennis Championship as Chief Guest and lauded the event as a reflection of Pakistan's youthful spirit, determination, and pursuit of sporting excellence.
The event, hosted by the Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF), brought together renowned players, coaches, parents, and emerging tennis stars from across the country.
In his address, Syedal Khan Nasir paid rich tribute to Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi, President of the Pakistan Tennis Federation, for his outstanding contributions in promoting tennis and earning international recognition for Pakistan. He praised Mr. Qureshi's visionary leadership, which has strengthened the sport's foundation from grassroots to the global stage.
The Deputy Chairman also commended Mr. Salim Saifullah Khan for his strategic leadership that redefined the Federation's structure and reputation. He termed Pakistan's advancement from Group C to Group A in international tennis rankings as a 'historic milestone' reflecting the dedication of the Federation and the talent of Pakistani players.
Highlighting the government's support for sports development, Syedal Khan Nasir said that Parliament and the Government of Pakistan remain committed to nurturing young athletes through institutional backing and infrastructure enhancement. He expressed satisfaction at the active participation of players from Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, South Punjab, and Sindh, assuring his continued support for nationwide sporting initiatives.
The Deputy Chairman emphasized that sports play a vital role in nation-building by instilling discipline, integrity, and unity among youth. 'Sports are not merely about winning or losing,' he remarked, 'but about dignity, perseverance, and strength of character.'
He further stated that sports today serve as a source of economic growth, diplomacy, and national identity, adding that Pakistani athletes continue to raise the national flag high across multiple disciplines including cricket, hockey, squash, and tennis.
Addressing the young players, he said:
'You are not just athletes - you are ambassadors of Pakistan's identity and the torchbearers of its future. Your success is Pakistan's success.'
Expressing confidence in the continued progress of tennis in Pakistan, Syedal Khan Nasir said that under the professional leadership of the PTF, the sport will continue to thrive and gain greater global recognition. He appreciated the efforts of organizers, coaches, parents, and players for their commitment and passion, describing it as the true guarantee of Pakistan's bright future.
