Srinagar: Jammu Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party, while condemning the recent seizure of Islamic literature and books by Indian police in Srinagar, has termed it as a direct assault on religious freedom.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the DFP spokesman advocate Arshad Iqbal said that the ridiculous move was a reflection of Hindutva mindset that seeks to erase the Muslim identity, their historic and culture.

He, however, maintained that such a shameful move was akin to guard Kashmiris thoughts, detach and disconnect them from their roots.

Meanwhile, the DFP spokesman condemned the termination of Kashmiri employees from their jobs and termed it as an attempt to strangulate Kashmiris economically. Voicing his party's concern over the deteriorating political, human and religious rights in the region, Iqbal said that Mirwaiz Umar Farooq's recent interview tells it all about the abysmal state of religious freedom in the region.

He said that the following the Indian government's controversial decision to abrogate articles 370 and 35A in 2019, the essential fundamental freedoms including the religious freedoms have significantly worsened.
