Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) has strongly condemned the denial of bail to its illegally detained Chairman, Shabbir Ahmed Shah, despite repeated application to the courts.

DFP Spokesman Advocate Arshad Iqbal in a statement issued on Friday said that Indian agencies have been booking Shabbir Ahmed Shah under fake charges since 1968 but they have miserably failed in proving a single allegation against him so far.

'Even for the past eight years after Shah was booked under fictitious cases and sent to New Delhi's Tihar Jail, not a single allegation has been proved in any court of law", he said, adding that denial of bail was being used by the Indian judiciary as an instrument to prolong detention of Kashmiri prisoners who have been languishing in different jails in and outside Kashmir.

"It is quite unfortunate that the Indian judiciary that has been working under political pressure has failed to deliver justice to victims of state repression,' he added.

The DFP spokesman said, the Indian agencies, working on whims and fancies of New Delhi, were victimizing Shah and other leaders just for raising their voice for the voiceless Kashmiris and advocating for a just settlement of Kashmir dispute.

The spokesman praised the patience, political will and steadfastness of Shabir Ahmed Shah, who, he said, had to spent more than half of his life in different jails because of his political beliefs.

He urged the world human rights organizations to take effective notice of the judicial repression against Kashmiri prisoners and play their much needed role to secure early release of Shabir Ahmed Shah who is suffering from various serious ailments.

India, he said, must realize the fact that Kashmiris could not be cowed down or coerced into submission by using such mean tactics.
