Karachi: Sindh High Court (SHC) has remarked divorced daughters are entitled to get share from monthly pension of father unless they remarry.

A two members constitutional bench of SHC comprising Justice Muhammad Karim Khan and Justice Nisar Ahmad Bhanbhro took up for hearing a petition filed by a divorced woman Wednesday.

The court directed the authorities amount of monthly pension of deceased pensioner be distributed among divorced daughter and other unmarried/widowed in accordance with 4 months period.

According to SHC finance ministry had changed pension rules in 1983 and brought at par the status of divorced daughters with unmarried daughters keeping in view difficulties facing the divorced and widowed daughters of deceased pensioner.

The petitioner had filed petition against provincial authorities in SHC last year taking the plea her father had retired as assistant professor from college education department in 1990 and he had passed away in January 2023.
