Lahore: Justice Shahid Karim of Lahore High Court (LHC) has remarked order was issued that no construction work would be done in these two months and why the order is not being implemented.He further remarked " educational institutions are closed. All is before us then as to why constructions are not being closed.He gave these remarks during hearing of the case related to smog here Monday.Senior legal advisor Wasa, Mian Irfan Akram advocate, officers and law officers of different departments appeared in the court.Punjab government filed report in the court about the steps taken by it.Counsel for Punjab government told the court operation was conducted on 3 bus stands in Lahore and action was taken against 60 smoke emitting vehicles.Justice Shahid Karim remarked what is job of deputy commissioner Lahore. Could he not sit on Sunday. What was settled in the meeting of advocate general. Had you asked me I would have held court proceedings on Sunday. The responsible are not in the city in this s eason of smog.Justice Shahid Karim remarked no one from transport department is in the court. Advocate general is not in Punjab today. This is most important matter of all. They should have been in the court today.The court remarked we have been giving orders about smog since the last two years. Was transport department sleeping. Government departments are failed in taking steps with reference to smog.This is matter of life of all of us including our children but departments are not working in right way.Justice Shahid Karim remarked the remains of crops are still being burnt. Did government not know its remains will be burnt after rice crop. But government did nothing.He remarked due to tree cutting, Multan stands at No 1 in smog. Government was asked to take steps with regard to work from home. But nothing was done. Courts gave no order for closing markets from 8 P.MJustice Shahid Karim remarked government should assign the duty to all DCs and ACs all over Punjab asking them to come ou t of their offices and conduct checking on roads.Situation will not change due to fine of Rs 1500 to Rs 2000. Government should think seriously about suspending construction.The court while seeking report from different departments adjourned hearing of the case till November 12.
