Islamabad:Supreme Court (SC) while announcing important decision with reference to promotion of elementary school teachers has maintained Elementary School Teachers (ESTs) have full right of 50 percent promotion on the basis of seniority and eligibility.

6-page decision was authored by Justice Ayesha Malik.

The decision said government should play a best and exemplary role . Creating ambiguity in the seniority and promotion of employees and withdrawing promotion run contrary to good governance. Damage of ambiguity in laws and regulations cannot be inflicted on the employees.

The court while nullifying Punjab Service Tribunal order and May, 24, 2023 Education department order has ordered to grant all previous perks and privileges of promotion from the date of cancellation.

The petitioner Muhammad Shafiq Elementary School Teacher was promoted in BPS-16 . Education department Punjab had withdrawn promotion order on May 24, 2023 while giving reference to a note of 2014 service rules.

Punjab service tribunal had upheld action taken by Education department .
