Exports Must Surpass Imports to Strengthen Economy, Says Haroon Akhtar Khan

Islamabad: Special Assistant to the Prime Minister, Haroon Akhtar Khan, speaking at the Pakistan Business Council's Dialogue on the Economy, emphasized that Pakistan must prioritize domestic investment before seeking foreign inflows. He highlighted the need for rapid economic growth to generate employment opportunities and accelerate national progress.

Mr. Khan underlined that industrial development is crucial for economic prosperity, describing industry as the backbone of advancement. He stressed that exports must outpace imports to prevent a widening trade deficit and strengthen the economy. Promoting manufacturing and local production, including essential materials like steel, is key to enhancing Pakistan's export potential.

He praised the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) for its performance in implementing reforms and reiterated that Pakistan can achieve growth through its own capabilities and national strength. Mr. Khan also announced that a tax package under the upcoming industrial policy will be presented to the IMF, emphasizing that the reforms aim for long-term and sustainable economic development.
