Federal Cabinet Members Directed to Stay in Islamabad Amid Speculation over KP Governor’s Rule

Islamabad: Federal cabinet members have reportedly been directed to remain in Islamabad amid speculation about the possible imposition of governor's rule or an emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to sources.

Sources said federal ministers had also been asked not to travel to their constituencies, while Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry had been assigned the responsibility of maintaining contact with cabinet members.

According to sources, approval from the federal cabinet would be required for the imposition of governor's rule or an emergency.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has convened an important meeting for Saturday, sources said, adding that the prime minister had also stayed in Islamabad over the weekend instead of travelling to Lahore.

There was no official confirmation of a decision to impose governor's rule or an emergency in the province at the time of filing this report.
