Rawalpindi: Fifteen security personnel and officials embraced martyrdom while 12 terrorists were killed after security forces successfully repulsed a terrorist attack on a Joint Police Check Post in Tank District during the night of July 23/24, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Friday.
According to the ISPR, terrorists belonging to the Indian-sponsored Fitna Al Khwarij launched a cowardly attack on the joint check post with the intention of breaching its security.
The military's media wing said the attackers' attempt was swiftly and decisively foiled by the vigilant response of the security forces. Displaying courage and professional excellence, troops engaged the fleeing terrorists with precision, killing 12 of them.
The ISPR said that in desperation, the attackers rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into the perimeter wall of the check post. The powerful blast caused extensive damage to the infrastructure.
As a result of the explosion, 15 personnel, including 12 soldiers, two policemen and one government official from the Forest Department, embraced martyrdom.
The ISPR said a sanitization operation was under way to eliminate any remaining terrorists in the area.
It added that the security forces and law enforcement agencies would continue their relentless counter-terrorism campaign under the vision of "Azm-e-Istehkam," approved by the Federal Apex Committee on the National Action Plan, to eradicate the menace of foreign-sponsored terrorism from the country.
The military reaffirmed that the sacrifices of the martyrs further strengthened Pakistan's unwavering resolve to safeguard the nation at all costs.
