Islamabad: Mr. Jean Todt, UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy for Road Safety, called on Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb at the Ministry of Finance on Thursday.

Mr. Todt, currently in Pakistan to attend the Regional Transport Ministers' Conference in Islamabad, briefed the Finance Minister on the global and regional dimensions of road safety, highlighting the immense human and economic toll of road accidents that claim over a million lives annually worldwide. He stressed that investment in safer roads, vehicles, and mobility systems is not only a public health necessity but also an economically and environmentally sound strategy.

The Finance Minister appreciated Mr. Todt's leadership in promoting road safety and emphasized Pakistan's commitment to integrating road and climate safety within its sustainable development and infrastructure policies. He reaffirmed the government's resolve to strengthen institutional coordination, improve transport safety standards, and support initiatives aimed at saving lives and reducing fiscal burdens.

Both sides agreed to continue collaboration for advancing shared objectives of safe, sustainable, and inclusive mobility.
