Rawalpindi: On 1 September 2025, at around 1000 hours, an MI-17 helicopter crash landed near Hudor village approximately 12 kilometers away from Thakdas Cantonment.According to the statement issued by the ISPR, the helicopter was on routine training flying when it developed technical fault and crashed. As a result, all crew members on board embraced shahadat. Details of Shuhada are as under:- Major Atif- Pilot in Command, Major Faisal - Co-pilot, N/Sub Maqbool, Flight Engineer, Hav Jahangir - Crew Chief and Naik Amir - Crew Chief.Training missions are part of routine activities of Army Aviation to maintain operational readiness for performing tasks varying from operational support to humanitarian assistance and disaster relief. Pakistan Army remains committed to ensuring readiness in all facets.Meanwhile according to GB government spokesperson Faizullah Faraq, the aircraft was carrying two pilots and three technical staff members. All five members on board have been confirmed dead. The helicopter is co nfirmed to belong to the Pakistan Army.The Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan Haji Gulbar Khan expressed sorrow over the incident and directed authorities to reach the crash site immediately.The district administration, local authorities, Commander FCNA, DG Gilgit-Baltistan Scouts, and Commissioner Diamer have arrived at the scene, along with a large number of residents, said Faizullah Faraq.Efforts to extinguish the fire and secure the site are currently underway, while further details about casualties or damage are yet to be confirmed.Emergency measures have been implemented at Chilas Hospital on the instructions of the Chief Minister. The government has directed all doctors and medical staff to ensure their presence at the hospital.Diamer Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Abdul Hameed, in a statement, said: 'Reportedly, five casualties occurred due to [helicopter] crash.' He confirmed to a private TV channel that the helicopter belonged to the Pakistan Army.The helicopter was conducting a t est landing on a newly proposed helipad, SSP Hameed said. Diamer police and rescue teams had reached the incident site and started evacuation, the officer added.Meanwhile President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif have expressed deep grief and sorrow over the martyrdom of officers and soldiers in a crash of Army Aviation helicopter near the Thakdas Cantonment area of Gilgit-Baltistan.In their separate messages, the President and Prime Minister prayed for high ranks of the martyred crew members.They extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the martyrs and prayed for their patience and courage.
