Islamabad: At least five people were killed in a gas cylinder explosion in Sector G-7/2, Islamabad, on Saturday, according to Islamabad Police.
Police said the powerful blast damaged several nearby houses, while 15 people were evacuated from the affected area. The injured were immediately shifted to nearby hospitals for medical treatment.
Rescue and police teams are continuing relief operations, and the area has been cordoned off to ensure public safety and facilitate investigations.
Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep grief over the loss of precious lives in the incident. In a statement, he offered prayers for the deceased and wished a speedy recovery for the injured.
The Prime Minister directed the Health Minister and concerned authorities to remain on alert and ensure the provision of the best possible medical facilities to the injured until their full recovery.
He also instructed the Interior Secretary to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident and directed the Islamabad administration to raise public awareness about safety measures related to the use of gas cylinders.
