Formation of 9th wage board award: Court issues notice to respondent, seeks reply

Islamabad: Islamabad High Court (IHC) while hearing petition seeking formation of 9th wage board award has issued notice to the respondents and sough reply from them within two weeks.

The petition was heard by Chief Justice (CJ) IHC Sarfraz Dogar Monday.

The petition was filed by PFUJ president Afzal Butt, RIUJ president Asif Bashir Chaudhry and president Islamabad High Court journalists association Asad Ullah Malik.

Shahid Khokhar counsel for the petitioners appeared in the court.

The court has been requested through the petition to order federal government to constitute 9th wage board award.

Information and broad casting secretary and secretary cabinet division have been made respondents in the petition.

5 years period of 8th wage board award has expired. New Board should be constituted from February 01, 2026.

Formation of wage board award is legal requirement under section 9 of News Papers employees act 1973. Delay in formation of wage board award is violation of basic rights of the journalists and article 18.
