Lahore: Under the auspices of Alkhidmat Foundation Women Trust Lahore, a one-day free eye camp was specially organized for children at a local school in Mohlanwal. Expert doctors conducted free screenings of a total of 310 children using modern equipment, and provided free eyeglasses where needed. The camp was organized in collaboration with POB Trust.On this occasion, Kiran Mubashir, In-charge of the Health Program at Alkhidmat Women Trust Lahore, said that the purpose of the camp is to protect children from vision problems in the future, as parents often do not pay attention to eye issues in young children, and due to this unawareness, children's eyesight can become significantly weak.She added that one of the major reasons for poor eyesight among children is the excessive use of mobile phones. Children spend too much time at home playing games and watching cartoons on mobile devices, while parents remain occupied with their own routines.She further stated that what is even more concerning is that ma ny mothers, for their own convenience and comfort, hand over mobile phones to their children to keep them occupied. This eventually contributes to weakening their eyesight, and sometimes the problems become severe. Therefore, parents should make time for their children and, while focusing on their upbringing, encourage them to engage in healthy activities and outdoor games instead of mobile phones, she added.On this occasion, eyeglasses were also provided free of cost to the children as needed-something many parents were completely unaware their children required.
