GHQ attack case: Video link trial of PTI founder challenged

Rawalpindi: Video link trial of PTI founder imran Khan in GHQ attack case has been challenged in Lahore High Court (LHC) Rawalpindi bench.

Home department notification has also been challenged by Suleman Akram Raja advocate in high court.

The petition said constitution makes it imperative to conduct trial in transparent manner under article 10. In whatsapp and video link trial, counsels cannot make consultation with their client.

It was requested that video link trial is illegal and unconstitutional, therefore, it be declared null and void. Whatever proceedings or statements have been recorded through whats app link be also nullified.

According to petitioner in jail trial , accused, lawyers and family are present. Consultation too can be made. But video link and whatsapp trial is murder of transparent trial rules. There are legal points of urgent nature. Petition be heard soon.

It was requested in the petition order be issued for presenting accused Imran Khan from jail to court for the sake of transparent trial. Half trial has taken place during hearing in jail. Order be issued for open jail hearing regarding remaining trial.

Petition is likely to be fixed before division bench comprising Justice Sadaqat Ali Khan and Justice Wahid Khan on Wednesday for preliminary hearing.

Talking to media men after boycotting , Suleman Akram Raja counsel for PTI founder said Imran Khan was presented in the court room through video link but neither voice was coming clear nor picture. We said our talks with PTI founder be arranged. We tried to talk under the orders of court but talks could not take place due to weak video link.

It is not possible to talk in front of all in the court room. Because certain things can not be said in the presence of all.

We are giving application in the court. It is not possible for us to become part of this trial.

It is joke of the concept of the trial what is enshrined in law. Case should be run in open court and accused should be given opportunity to talk to his lawyers.

PTI founder was put in closed room deliberately so that he could not see us. We have filed petition in Lahore High Court Rawalpindi bench. It is hoped our petition will be heard tomorrow

We will not become part if the process continues this way, he added.
