Lahore: Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Emir Engineer Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has said that the government has granted more privileges to the elite while further burdening the poor in the federal budget.Addressing a press conference at Mansoorah on Thursday, Hafiz Naeemur Rehman strongly criticized the government's economic policies, saying it has neglected education, healthcare, and public safety while obsessively focusing on taxation.'Uncle-niece regime has crossed all limits in oppressing farmers and damaging the agriculture sector. PPP is also their ally.' In budget, he said, 111 departments have been granted tax exemptions and several of which are running businesses under the guise of charitable trusts.The JI chief called for an end to corruption within the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), the abolition of interest-based financial policies, and the cancellation of costly agreements with Independent Power Producers (IPPs), arguing that these steps could save trillions of rupees annually.He also criticized t he Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), calling it a hotbed of corruption used for political gain. He demanded a forensic audit of the programme and suggested that the allocated funds would be better spent on IT education to create employment opportunities for the youth.Highlighting flaws in the budget, he said the government had not prioritized education and had imposed an 18 percent tax on solar panels, resulting in a price hike of Rs 3,000 per unit. 'There is a massive disparity in salary increases,' he added. 'While the salaries of the Senate Chairman and National Assembly Speaker have been raised by 600 percent, ordinary government employees are only being given a 10 percent increase. This is unacceptable.'He also criticized the absence of a clearly defined minimum wage policy and raised alarm over Karachi's water crisis. 'The people of Karachi are crying out for water while the K-IV project has remained stalled for 22 years,' he said.Saying the PPP and PML-N is staging a friendly match, he sai d both parties are jointly operating the exploitative Form 47 system-a reference to alleged election rigging.Taking a swipe at Defense Minister Khawaja Asif, who had called the salary hikes for NA Speaker and Senate Chairman a financial vulgarity, Hafiz Naeemur Rehman asked why Asif continued to remain part of such a fascist system. He said that the privileged class stages performative opposition while remaining united behind the scenes. 'This includes the so-called major opposition parties as well,' he said. 'There is a dire need for revolution in Pakistan,' he declared.Commenting on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's praise of former U.S. President Donald Trump as a 'messenger of peace,' Hafiz Naeemur Rehman said, 'Trump is not what the Prime Minister claims. He is a hypocrite and deceiver who supported Israeli terrorism in Gaza.' He urged both the Prime Minister and the military leadership to take a firm and principled stance on the Palestine issue. 'Jamaat-e-Islami fully supports the Global Peace Caravan for Palestine,' he added.In response to a question about PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari foreign tour, Hafiz Naeemur Rehman remarked, 'According to social media memes, he [Bilwal] might be doing fine-but if he truly wants to make a mark in diplomacy, he must speak with seriousness and substance.'
