Islamabad: A high level meeting was held under the Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad.

Ongoing tension between Iran and US and Pakistan role in possible talks between them came under detailed discussion.

As per sources the meeting was attended by senior military leadership, federal ministers and senior officials.

Pakistan diplomatic efforts for defusing ongoing tension in the region and improving Gulf situation were reviewed in the meeting.

Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) Ishaq Dar gave detailed briefing to the participants of the meeting on the progress made so far and contacts made with different countries particularly foreign ministers of Egypt and Turkey.

According to sources PM Shehbaz Sharif urged Pakistan will continue its diplomatic efforts for peace and stability in the region.

He made it clear if the countries concerned agree then Pakistan is ready to host talks between US and Iran.

Directives were issued for making necessary arrangements in this regard.

An important meeting of PM with president Asif Ali Zardari is expected and more consultation will be made on this sensitive matter in the meeting.

Sources said Pakistan's likely key role for resolution of dispute is being appreciated at international level which reflects active and balanced foreign policy of the country.
