Lahore: An iftar dinner was organised at the Governor House on Saturday in honour of orphan children in connection with World Orphans Day, where cash assistance and Eid gifts were distributed among the children and their mothers.The event was attended by Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan and Secretary General of Alkhidmat Foundation Syed Waqas Jafri, along with members of civil society and volunteers of the organisation.According to the organisers, around 260 orphan children and 60 resilient mothers were invited to the ceremony, where Alkhidmat volunteers welcomed the guests and made arrangements for the programme.Speaking on the occasion, Syed Waqas Jafri said that Alkhidmat Foundation is currently sponsoring 34,383 orphan children across Pakistan, including in all four provinces, Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, while the organisation was also supporting orphan children in Gaza. He added that the foundation had established 25 Aghosh Homes, where orphan children were being provided with educ ation, care and modern facilities in a supportive environment.Governor Saleem Haider Khan appreciated the services of organisations working for the welfare of orphan children and said such institutions were a source of pride for the nation.The guests spent time with the children and joined them for iftar. At the end of the ceremony, Eid gifts were distributed among the children while cash assistance was provided to their mothers.
