Islamabad: Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday said that the government of Pakistan should write in the amicus brief that it has no objection if Dr. Aafia Siddiqui is released as a result of cases being filed for this purpose in the United States of America.

As per details, a single bench of Justice Sardar Ejaz Ishaq Khan heard the constitutional petition of Dr. Fowzia Siddiqui about the release of her sister Dr. Aafia Siddiqui.

The lawyer of Fowzia Siddiqui, Imran Shafique after the hearing told media outside the court premises that during Friday's hearing American lawyer of Aafia Siddiqui Clive Smith, Maria Kari and Dr. Fowzia Siddiqui appeared on the video link. Tania Siddiqui was also present. The Deputy Attorney General represented the government.

The court asked the government lawyer that regarding the cases being filed in the US, the government of Pakistan should add a sentence in amicus brief that it has no objection if Dr. Aafia Siddiqui is released as the result of these cases. The court said it is lame excuse that this would create legal issues for the government as in the previous amicus brief the government had already said so. The court also asked the government lawyer to file their stance in this regard next Wednesday. Jamaat-e-Islami former Senator Mushtaq Ahmed Khan was also present.
