Islamabad: Opposition Leader in National Assembly (NA) Mehmood Khan Achakzai has written a letter to Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif saying the important vacant constitutional posts of Election Commission (EC) be filled immediately.

The letter said the constitutional term of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and members of election commission Sindh and Balochistan has completed.

He said the term of CEC and members of election commission of Sindh and Balochistan was completed on January 26, 2026. The important constitutional posts be filled immediately.

He said in his letter that under article 213 (2A) of the constitution consultation is compulsory between PM and opposition leader for appointment of CEC. Under article 218(2B) consultation between PM and opposition leader is must for appointment of members of EC too.

Immediate meeting should be held for giving final shape to the nominations on vacant posts in EC. Immediate appointments are compulsory to maintain independence , credibility and constitutional continuity of EC.
