Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, a tribunal upheld the Modi-led Indian government's ban on the Awami Action Committee (AAC) led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, further tightening the noose around pro-freedom political organisations in the territory.

According to media reports, the draconian Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Tribunal confirmed New Delhi's March 11 notification that declared the AAC an 'unlawful association' under the notorious UAPA. The tribunal echoed the Indian Home Ministry's accusations that the AAC promoted the right to self-determination, raised political awareness, and mobilised support for Kashmiris' freedom cause.

The ban targets the organisation founded by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, accusing him and other AAC leaders of delivering speeches and slogans that reflect the Kashmiri people's aspiration for freedom from Indian occupation.
