Tehran:Iranian Defence Minister Mehrdad Akhlaghi has pledged to strengthen the country's combat capabilities to ensure a swift, effective and proportionate response to any threat, regardless of geographical limitations.

In a message issued on Sunday, Akhlaghi said the Ministry of Defence had carefully examined the strategic measures and directives issued by Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei to senior commanders of the Armed Forces.

He said the directives had established the roadmap and strategic direction for Iran's defence establishment in the coming period, placing greater responsibility on the ministry to safeguard national security, independence and authority.

The defence minister said accelerating the design, production and supply of defence equipment and weapons, strengthening industrial and technological infrastructure, and enhancing logistical support for the Armed Forces were among the ministry's key priorities.

Warning those threatening Iran's national security and interests, he said any act of aggression would receive a proportionate, decisive and impactful response.

"The extent, timing and consequences of Iran's defensive response will not be decided by those who make the threats," he said.

Akhlaghi maintained that Iran possessed the readiness, determination and capabilities required to defend its national security and interests.

He added that the Ministry of Defence and Armed Forces Logistics would pursue the implementation of these measures by utilising the expertise of Iranian specialists and scientists, domestic defence industries, knowledge-based companies and the country's human resources.

He also emphasised coordination with the General Staff of the Armed Forces to strengthen the country's overall defence capabilities.
