Islamabad: Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar chaired the 7th meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Essential/Cash crops.
The Meeting was attended by the Cabinet Committee members and senior officials of the Ministry of National Food Security and Research, Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Planning and Special Initiative and all Provincial Secretaries of Agriculture Departments to deliberate on various means and methods for improving per acre yields of wheat.
The wheat crop and stocks of wheat in the country were also discussed in detail.
The meeting observed ample availability of stared stocks to meet the country's requirements for the Food Year 2025-26. The data on the sowing of wheat crop for Rabi 2025-26 was also shared by the provinces which was found in-line with assigned targets, due to the timely introduction of the Interim National Wheat Policy 2025-26, which has generated positive sentiment and confidence among the farming community.
The DPM/FM expressed his satisfaction over the smooth availability of certified seed and key inputs, and appreciated collective efforts towards wheat self-sufficiency.
He urged all stakeholders to focus on areas through wheat varieties and underscored sustained federal and provincial coordination to ensure national food security in the coming years.
