LAHORE:Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar has contacted Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Acting Emir Liaqat Baloch and informed him that the technical committees of the government and JI will meet today (Thursday) to discuss the gradual withdrawal of the petroleum levy and measures to provide relief to the public.
The meeting between experts from both sides was originally scheduled for Wednesday. However, the government sought a one-day extension, citing a slight delay in finalising the relevant data required for the negotiations.
Baloch said that Jamaat-e-Islami Emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman would review the draft agreement finalised by the two sides. The party leadership would then be consulted before announcing its future course of action.
The negotiations are part of JI's campaign demanding the elimination of the petroleum levy and relief for consumers facing rising fuel costs.
