Islamabad: Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar received the Union Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, Than Swe, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Islamabad.

Both sides reviewed the full gamut of bilateral relations and reaffirmed their commitment to expand cooperation across diverse sectors, including religious tourism as well as people-to-people and cultural exchanges, with a view to promoting shared prosperity. They also exchanged views on regional and international peace and security, and agreed to remain in close contact on matters of mutual interest.

The visit provided an opportunity for comprehensive discussions on the entire spectrum of Pakistan-Myanmar relations. In this context, the two sides reviewed the state of bilateral ties and exchanged views on regional peace and security, as well as other matters of mutual interest. They discussed ways to further strengthen cooperation in trade and economic engagement, capacity-building, humanitarian cooperation, and consular matters, including cases relating to those affected by scamming operations abroad.

Recalling the longstanding friendship and historic bonds between the peoples of the two countries, both sides underscored the importance of deepening cultural cooperation and promoting people-to-people exchanges, including academic linkages, youth engagement, and cultural initiatives.

The Myanmar Foreign Minister highlighted the potential of religious tourism as a meaningful avenue to further strengthen cultural ties and enhance people-to-people connectivity.

Ishaq Dar reaffirmed Pakistan's support for a peaceful, stable, and prosperous Myanmar, and reiterated Pakistan's principled position in favour of national reconciliation in Myanmar.

Following the consultations, the two sides signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Political Consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan and Myanmar.
