Islamabad: Several high-profile cases in Islamabad courts have been scheduled for hearings over the coming weeks, involving political leaders, former ministers, and international legal matters.
In the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Islamabad, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders Umar Ayub and Zartaj Gul will face a hearing on December 20, 2025. The court had previously declared both leaders as proclaimed offenders and ordered the confiscation of their properties. The court also approved exemption requests for other accused, including Zain Qureshi, Ali Bukhari, Sher Afzal Marwat, and Shoaib Shaheen, and adjourned the case until December 20. The case is registered at Police Station Sangjani.
Similarly, in the District and Sessions Courts Islamabad, the hearing against former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has been scheduled for January 20, 2026. The court had already issued non-bailable arrest warrants for him. During the last hearing, the court directed his arrest and appearance, but due to his absence, the framing of charges was postponed. This case is registered at Police Station Golra.
At Islamabad High Court, the case regarding Dr. Aafia Siddiqui's health and repatriation will be heard early in 2026. The court had requested a full briefing from the federal government by January 20. During prior proceedings, the Additional Attorney General stated that Dr. Aafia is a U.S. citizen and was sentenced in the United States, so Pakistan cannot interfere in U.S. judicial matters. A larger bench, headed by Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir and including Justices Khadim Hussain Soomro, Muhammad Azam Khan, and Inam Amin Minhas, will hear the petition filed by Dr. Aafia's sister Fauzia Siddiqui. The hearing has been adjourned until January 20, 2026.
Meanwhile, the Federal Shariat Court will hear the suo motu case regarding journalist Arshad Sharif on December 17, 2025. The court has sought updates on the progress of investigations and legal opinions on its jurisdiction following the 27th constitutional amendment. The two-member bench, comprising Justices Aamer Farooq and Rozi Khan, will oversee the proceedings, which were adjourned to December 17.
