Islamabad: Police have registered a case against the staff of a private mental health and drug rehabilitation centre in Islamabad after a young man allegedly died due to torture, while the centre's management reportedly fled after locking the facility.

According to an application submitted at Shahzad Town Police Station by the victim's father, the deceased had been admitted to the rehabilitation centre in June this year for treatment of drug addiction and improvement of his mental health.

The victim's family alleged that they were not allowed to meet him during his stay at the facility. The deceased's uncle said the family was denied access to the patient until July 9, when they were informed that he had contracted dengue fever. However, upon reaching the hospital, they found him dead and observed alleged torture marks on his body.

The family accused the rehabilitation centre staff of murdering the young man and got a case registered against them. They further claimed that the staff locked the rehabilitation centre and fled after the incident.

Police have initiated legal proceedings on the complaint filed by the deceased's father and said raids are being conducted to arrest the accused. The body has been shifted to hospital for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
